Personal and Social Education
KEY STAGE 3.
The themes identified in the PSE framework are:
Active Citizenship, Health and Emotional Well-Being, Moral and Spiritual Development, Preparing for Lifelong Learning and Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.

Year 7
We introduce students to Glantaf and look at settling into a new school. We study what PSE is, Personal Hygiene, Abuse (Neglect, Physical and Mental), Puberty and the emotional and physical changes, Firework Safety, Bullying, Personal Safety in the Society, First Aid, Smoking and Demmocracy in the Community.

Year 8
A number of important topics are studied including Tolerance, Friendships and Bullying, Time Management, Personal Finance, Banking and Saving Money, Dangers of Gambling, Alcohol, Healthy Eating and Entrepreneurism.

Year 9
Obesity, Anorexia, Bulimia, Self-Harm, 14+ Choices and Sex and Contraception Education are topics covered during this year.

KEY STAGE 4.
Year 10
We look at Dealing with Death and Bereavement, Personal Finance and the World of Work, Higher Education, Knife Crime and Railway Safety.

Year 11
We welcome the students to year 11 with some target setting before looking at Drug Education, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Parenthood, Safe Relationships and Creating a Curriculum Vitae.

KEY STAGE 5.
During years 12 and 13:
Guest speakers are invited to discuss and raise awareness of various issues throughout the year.

The Aims of PSE are to:
• develop learners’ self-esteem and a sense of personal responsibility
• promote self-respect, respect for others and celebrate diversity
• equip learners to live safe, healthy lives
• prepare learners for the choices and opportunities of lifelong learning
• empower learners to participate in their schools and communities as active responsible citizens locally, nationally and globally
• foster positive attitudes and behaviour towards the principles of sustainable development and global citizenship
• prepare learners for the challenges, choices and responsibilities of work and adult life.
